Chinese MA
Central Area Campus, United Kingdom
The programme facilitates the development of advanced competency in modern standard Chinese, providing the skills needed for daily use in social and professional settings with a focus on reading, writing, speaking, and listening. In addition to learning both simplified and traditional characters, the curriculum includes classical Chinese, which distinguishes the programme from others. As the programme progresses, Chinese-English and English-Chinese translation skills are acquired. From the very start, core academic and research skills are gained to develop critical thinking in Chinese studies. Courses explore history, literature, culture, politics, and international relations. Along with mainland China, the significance of Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and their diasporas is considered from a range of perspectives. By the final year, the necessary skills are attained to produce an independent research project.
