Chinese and French MA
Central Area Campus, United Kingdom
As a world-leading festival and capital city, Edinburgh provides a fantastic environment for studying global languages in their cultural context. Both single and joint honours undergraduate programmes in Chinese are offered, marking the only institution in Scotland to do so. Within the UK, this is also the only university to provide three different language entry levels to Chinese degree programmes: ab initio for complete beginners, upper beginner, and intermediate. Two entry levels are also offered for French. The programme is designed for non-native speakers, though heritage language learners are welcome. Studying over four years enables the selection of courses that match specific interests, expertise, and employability needs. Immersive study abroad is built into the programme in Year 3, which is spent in either mainland China or Taiwan and in a country where French is spoken. Upon graduation, the combination of broad cultural education and specialist knowledge provides significant value for employers worldwide.
