Mathematics
University of Chester Campus, United Kingdom
Overview
The Mathematics program offers students the opportunity to work on projects that are directly linked to the degree team’s own research, encompassing both theoretical and practical approaches. This research-led teaching ensures that students engage with current developments in mathematics while gaining valuable experience in applying mathematical concepts to real-world problems.
Students benefit from access to specialist mathematics computing facilities and a well-stocked library, including extensive electronic resources that support independent study and advanced research. The program is designed to be flexible and inclusive, with several resources in place to support part-time study. Enquiries are welcomed from individuals who wish to pursue academic study while remaining in employment.
Throughout the degree, students explore the development of mathematical systems and how these systems are used to model, simulate, and better understand real-world phenomena. The curriculum introduces a wide range of theoretical tools used to analyse and solve complex systems, alongside exposure to industry-standard software commonly used in professional and industrial settings.
A key component of the program is the completion of a dissertation, allowing students to undertake an in-depth research project in an area of personal interest. Students who choose to undertake a placement or project year will replace the Research Dissertation module with a placement or project module, gaining practical experience and enhancing their employability.
Graduates of the Mathematics program develop strong analytical, problem-solving, and computational skills, preparing them for careers in industry, finance, technology, research, education, and further postgraduate study.
