Law (Graduates)
University of Birmingham, United Kingdom
Overview
Law (Graduates) is designed to equip non-law and law graduates with the academic knowledge, practical skills, and professional confidence needed to succeed in today’s competitive legal and professional environment. At the heart of the programme is the Centre for Employability, Professional Legal Education and Research (CEPLER), which gives Birmingham students a distinct advantage by embedding employability, professional practice, and real-world legal experience throughout the course.
The programme provides a strong foundation in core areas of law while developing essential legal skills such as critical analysis, legal research, problem-solving, advocacy, and professional communication. Students gain an in-depth understanding of how law operates in practice, examining the legal system, key legal principles, and their application to contemporary social, commercial, and ethical issues. The course encourages analytical thinking and equips students to interpret and apply legal rules in a wide range of professional contexts.
A key strength of the programme is its strong focus on employability. Through CEPLER, students benefit from opportunities to build practical skills, confidence, and professional awareness, helping them stand out in the graduate job market. These opportunities may include legal skills workshops, careers support, networking events, employer engagement, and access to pro bono and clinical-style learning activities. Students are encouraged to develop a strong professional profile and to understand the expectations of legal employers and related professions.
