International Law and Globalisation
University of Birmingham, United Kingdom
Overview
The International Law and Globalisation programme explores how law operates in an increasingly interconnected world, examining the legal frameworks that shape global politics, trade, human rights, security, and international governance. You will develop a strong understanding of international legal systems and how globalisation influences law, policy, and decision-making across borders.
A key strength of the programme is its strong focus on employability and professional development. Our Centre for Employability, Professional Legal Education and Research (CEPLER) gives Birmingham students a clear competitive edge. Through CEPLER, you will have opportunities to build practical legal skills, professional confidence, and workplace readiness, helping you stand out in a highly competitive global jobs market. These opportunities may include skills workshops, employer engagement, research-led activities, and experiential learning linked to real-world legal and policy challenges.
The programme combines academic rigour with practical insight, taught by expert academics whose research informs international law and global policy debates. Graduates are well prepared for careers in international organisations, NGOs, government, law firms, policy advisory roles, and further legal study, equipped with the knowledge and skills to navigate and influence legal issues in a globalised world.
