This mental health nursing degree at Teesside University enables you to develop the values, knowledge, and skills to work effectively with individuals experiencing a variety of mental health problems whilst supporting their families and carers. As a mental health nurse, you will establish and build therapeutic relationships with people who may experience mental health distress and illness, encourage healthy behaviours, recognise and treat symptoms early, and promote mental and physical well-being across all ages.
The course combines academic study with a range of placement experiences encompassing work with people across the lifespan, developing knowledge and skills to support those with both organic and functional illness, including those who may encounter the criminal justice system. You spend 50% of the course in theory settings and 50% in practice settings, benefiting from strong partnerships with NHS Trusts and other placement providers across the region.
On successful completion of the course, you will be eligible to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) on the nurses' part of the Professional Register (Mental Health Nursing).
