MASTER Musicologie : musique, langages, sociétés

With a long tradition, the Music and Musicology Department of the Faculty of Arts at Sorbonne University is the largest French center for training and research in musicology. Its master's degree is distinguished by its unique offerings in terms of:

• supervision (around twenty teacher-researchers supported by the main French Joint Research Unit in musicology, IReMus, itself attached to the CNRS, the BnF and the Ministry of Culture);
• repertoires (classical music from Antiquity to the present day, jazz, traditional music, film music, popular/current music);
• disciplinary fields (systematic and historical musicology, sociomusicology, performance studies, philosophy of music, music for image, law and economics of music, organology, ethnomusicology, popular music studies);
• specializations (music administration and management, analysis and creation, choir direction, music mediation, interpretation of early music, research);
• resources made available to students (instrumentarium, online resources, libraries, computer rooms, audiovisual software and equipment, recording studio, rehearsal rooms).

Courses take place at three Sorbonne University sites:

• Clignancourt Center (2 rue Francis de Croisset, 75018 Paris);
• House of Research (28 rue Serpente, 75006 Paris);
• Sorbonne site (17 rue de la Sorbonne, 75005 Paris).

For certain courses, lessons are also provided on the sites of our partners (CNSMDP, Royaumont Foundation, INHA, BnF, PSPBB, CRR, Radio France, etc.).
