Ecotoxicology and Environmental Sustainability Master
University of Siena Main Campus, Italy
The Master’s program in Ecotoxicology and Environmental Sustainability provides students with advanced knowledge in environmental management, ecotoxicology, and sustainability analysis. The program focuses on assessing the sustainability of human activities from two complementary perspectives: ensuring that resources are increasingly renewable and minimizing the environmental impacts of human actions.
The curriculum is structured across three interconnected levels:
- Theoretical-Epistemological Level – equipping students to understand the complexity of natural and human systems and to investigate their scientific foundations;
- Practical Level – developing the technical skills, methodologies, and indicators necessary for environmental monitoring, ecosystem assessment, and the study of transformation processes in territorial and economic systems;
- Integrative Level – providing a comprehensive perspective on sustainable development, enabling students to envision innovative economic scenarios inspired by the concept of “prosperity without growth,” as articulated by American ecologist H. Odum.
Graduates of the program are prepared to address complex environmental challenges, design sustainable policies, and implement strategies that balance ecological protection with socio-economic development. By combining theoretical knowledge, practical expertise, and holistic understanding, the Master’s Degree in Ecotoxicology and Environmental Sustainability trains professionals capable of contributing to a sustainable future across diverse sectors.
