Business (Financial Services) Diploma Overview

The Business (Financial Services) Diploma at Saskatchewan Polytechnic is designed for students interested in a career that combines working with money and working with people. This two-year program builds a strong foundation in core business concepts during the first year, then allows you to specialize in financial services in the second year.

Financial services encompasses far more than banking — it includes loans, mortgages, investment products, financial planning and advising, money management, insurance, and risk management. You will develop specialized knowledge and skills in residential mortgages, bank operations, financial products and services, loans and credit, personal financial planning, tax fundamentals, and advanced investment products.

The program works with the Canadian Securities Institute (CSI) to ensure students meet actual marketplace needs. A unique seminar course in your final semester gives you the chance to integrate theory and practice in a simulated retail banking environment, preparing you for the workforce upon graduation.

Program Highlights

  • Hands-on applied learning through case studies, simulations, and practical exercises that mirror real financial services environments
  • Preparation for the Investment Funds in Canada (IFC) compliance exams through CSI-aligned coursework
