The program combines theoretical instruction with hands-on practice through seminars, workshops, and a mandatory project work developed in collaboration with leading organizations in Italian science communication and dissemination. A minimum three-month internship at prestigious media outlets, foundations, and research institutions completes the learning experience.

Curriculum & Modules

The Master comprises approximately 250 hours of instruction organized into thematic areas, combining remote sessions (typically Friday afternoons and Saturdays) with four intensive in-person blocks of consecutive days. The curriculum is structured around five core thematic areas, complemented by a project work and final dissertation.

Philosophical Perspectives on Communication and Science

Develops cultural competencies on the nature of science as an intellectual endeavor, the relationship between science and other forms of knowledge, and communication as a tool to strengthen citizens' critical thinking.

Science and Society: Technical and Cultural Transformations in Information

Core Module

Focuses on information in an evolving world, covering science and health journalism topics including vaccine controversies, pandemic risk, risk communication, disease mongering, fake news, and the impact of new technologies on journalism.

Science and Its Impact

Core Module

Provides tools to critically analyze research in medicine, biology, environmental science, and neuroscience/psychology, with particular attention to socially debated topics such as genetic editing, vaccines, climate change, and microplastics pollution.

The Science of Communication

Core Module

Covers all the tools and skills required of a communication professional, including writing different textual genres, designing audiovisual products, and developing communication strategies for scientific and health contexts.

Exploring Channels and Tools for Dissemination

Core Module

Provides a practical overview of communication channels and tools, from social media to event organization, podcasts, and audio-video content creation, alongside data journalism skills for collecting, processing, visualizing, and interpreting empirical data.

Project Work and Final Dissertation

Core Module

A hands-on project conducted in collaboration with a leading organization in Italian science communication, followed by the preparation and defense of a final dissertation related to the project work. Both are mandatory for obtaining the degree.
