Water and Environmental Management

Based in London, a global centre for environmental and sustainability research, you will engage with top-tier events, networks and organisations in water and environmental management as a core element of the programme. You will gain an advanced understanding of key concepts and approaches in sustainable environmental management, including holistic catchment-scale approaches to water management, environmental restoration and rewilding, natural capital and ecosystem services, Natural Flood Management, risk-based environmental pollution management, and nature-based climate solutions. You will have the opportunity to network within the water and environmental sectors, meeting experts with experience of working in a wide variety of public- and private-sector organisations such as AECOM, AtkinsRealis, Defra, Environment Agency, Natural England, National Trust, and Thames21. You will develop transferable skills in project management, data analysis, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, report writing, problem solving, and presenting. You will gain practical experience through fieldwork and will have access to our cutting-edge analytical facilities in the Geography and Environmental Science Laboratories. We offer hands-on training in flood risk modelling and river assessment using industry-standard software and methods. A key element of the programme is the individual research project, where you have the option to work with an external environmental organisation and/or on ongoing research projects led by the teaching team. This project allows you to apply your learning to real-world challenges, supported by expert supervision and potentially opening doors to future employment or further research.
