Cancer Sciences MSc provides a comprehensive foundation in cancer biology, disease mechanisms, and research methodologies, delivered by leading experts from Barts Cancer Institute. The curriculum consists of three compulsory modules covering cancer biology, research methods, and advanced topics, supplemented by a selection of elective modules that allow students to deepen knowledge in areas such as biological therapies, molecular mechanisms, and therapeutic development. Depending on the chosen pathway—Clinical Oncology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, or Therapeutics—students complete either a 10,000‑word dissertation or a five‑month laboratory project supervised by institute researchers. Teaching combines seminars, self‑directed study, tutorials, case presentations, and access to cutting‑edge laboratory facilities, while a dedicated academic mentor provides pastoral and scholarly guidance throughout the programme. Graduates acquire advanced analytical skills, practical laboratory experience, and the capacity to design and evaluate innovative cancer treatments, preparing them for careers in academia, clinical settings, or biotech and pharmaceutical industries.
