Course Content
You will have, on average, 6 hours of lectures each week and up to 6 hours of group seminars. You will also complete library research, bibliographic searches, project work, and preparation for presentations. Some modules involve project and/or small group work. Your extended essay involves research in an area of your choice. Visiting speakers give presentations at the School to provide perspective on the subject.
We use a variety of assessment methods including coursework, examinations and the dissertation/extended essay. Some modules are wholly assessed by coursework.
About This Course
Our Sociology (with Foundation Year) option is a four-year course with an integrated foundation year which leads to the same qualification as our three-year honours degree. It has been specifically designed for those wanting to undertake degree-level study but who may not meet the entry requirements or have traditional qualifications.
Studying Sociology at degree level offer you the chance to investigates social life and the way it shapes people's behaviour, beliefs and identity. Its subject matter ranges from an examination of the face-to-face interactions of daily life, to large-scale social institutions, social movements and global processes. By understanding the social world, we gain a better understanding of ourselves and our own social situations.
The Foundation Year (Year 0) offers you the chance to expand and strengthen your confidence, skills and knowledge – ensuring that you are well-prepared and qualified to progress into Year 1 of the undergraduate degree.
