Curriculum and Modules

The MSc Biomedical Science curriculum is structured around core taught modules covering the major pathology disciplines, a research skills module, and a substantial dissertation project. Blood Sciences

30 Credits

This module facilitates a deeper understanding of haematology, coagulation, and clinical chemistry in both health and disease. Students also learn the role blood sciences play in therapeutic management, including blood and stem cell transfusions.

Cell and Molecular Pathology

30 Credits

Enables students to acquire Masters-level knowledge of cellular and molecular pathology, including the classical role of histology in disease identification and how modern molecular methodologies supplement these approaches, including detecting drug sensitivities in diseases such as cancer.

Infectious Science

30 Credits

Designed to provide Masters-level knowledge and understanding of infectious science, this module covers microbiological virulence, antibiotic resistance, and human immunity in both health and disease states.

Research Skills

Prepares students for a hypothesis-driven Masters-level research project by developing in-depth background knowledge, understanding of scientific experimentation, and specialist application skills directly applicable to a specific research project.

Admission Requirements

  • NHS Registration NoteTo practise in an NHS laboratory as a state-registered Biomedical Scientist, an accredited Biomedical Science undergraduate degree is first required
