The CertHE Music Production & DJ Performance at Point Blank Music School gives you a professional grounding in the skills and knowledge required to start out as a music producer, DJ, and performer in today's competitive music industry. Equivalent to year one of the BA (Hons) Music Production & DJ Performance degree, this program allows you to continue into the full three-year degree upon successful completion.
You will learn music production and composition techniques using Logic Pro or Ableton Live, develop DJ skills on industry-standard Pioneer DJ equipment, and gain an understanding of the music industry and key revenue streams. The curriculum has been designed by industry professionals who have worked with artists such as Pharrell Williams, The Chemical Brothers, and Massive Attack, ensuring real-world relevance throughout your studies.
Based at Point Blank's 30,000 square foot campus in Shoreditch, London, you will benefit from state-of-the-art facilities including SSL mixing desks, a dedicated Pioneer DJ studio, and intimate class sizes of no more than 16 students. Practical lectures take place two days per week, with additional access to fully equipped practice studios for independent learning.

Curriculum & Modules
The CertHE Music Production & DJ Performance consists of six 20-credit modules totalling 120 credits at academic level 4. Each module requires approximately 10 hours of study per week, comprising 4 hours of lectures and 6 hours of independent learning. You can choose to study music production using either Logic Pro or Ableton Live, depending on your preference.
Music Production (Ableton Live or Logic Pro)
20 CreditsDevelop core music production skills using your preferred DAW. You will learn beat-making, arrangement, synthesis, sampling, and mixing techniques to create professional-quality tracks across a range of electronic music genres.
Music Composition
20 CreditsExplore the core elements of musical composition including rhythm, harmony, melody, structure, and arrangement. You will develop compositional techniques through practical application of music theory using industry-standard software.
DJ Skills
20 CreditsLearn essential DJ techniques on state-of-the-art Pioneer DJ equipment including the OPUS-QUAD, CDJ-3000, and DJM-V10. Topics include beatmatching, phrasing, EQ mixing, effects, and building dynamic DJ sets.
DJ Performance
20 CreditsAdvance your DJ abilities with remix and sampling techniques, electronic music performance, and live set construction. You will develop your stage presence and performance skills with opportunities to showcase at student events and London venues.
Sound Engineering
20 CreditsGain an understanding of recording, mixing, and audio processing using professional studio equipment including SSL mixing consoles. Learn signal flow, microphone techniques, EQ, compression, and spatial audio concepts.
Music Industry
20 CreditsUnderstand the business side of the modern music industry including key revenue streams, digital distribution, branding, social media strategy, and career management. This module prepares you to launch your career as a DJ and producer while still on the course.
