MA Gender at Newcastle University: Program Overview
The MA Gender at Newcastle University is a unique interdisciplinary Master's program where you study gender alongside another social science subject of your choice. You will explore gender in a global context, examining how it intersects with issues such as race, nation, class, disability, and sexual identity, while developing the analytical and research skills to make a real difference in the world.
The program offers five distinct pathways: Gender and Sociology, Gender and Global Sustainable Futures, Gender and Public Policy, Gender and International Relations, and Gender and International Security: Conflict, Crime, and Justice. These pathways allow you to tailor your studies to complement your interests and career aspirations, focusing on key contemporary issues including conflict and violence, poverty and inequality, reproductive rights, the environment, migration, and identity.
Housed within the School of Geography, Politics and Sociology, the program draws on Newcastle University's long tradition of community-engaged research to help you put academic knowledge into practice. You will receive training from research-active academics and develop your own supervisor-guided research project, culminating in a presentation at the annual MA conference.
