Women's Studies (Co-Op) Bachelor

The Bachelor of Women’s Studies (Co-Op) is an interdisciplinary undergraduate programme that examines gender and women’s experiences within social, cultural, political, and economic contexts. Drawing on perspectives from sociology, history, politics, media, and cultural studies, the programme encourages students to critically analyse power, inequality, identity, and social change at local, national, and global levels.

A central feature of the programme is the co-operative education (Co-Op) component, which provides students with paid, supervised work placements related to their academic studies. These placements allow students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings, gain professional experience, and build networks within organisations such as community groups, non-profits, government agencies, educational institutions, and advocacy organisations.

Throughout the degree, students develop strong skills in critical analysis, research, writing, and communication. Key themes include feminism and feminist theory, intersectionality, race and ethnicity, sexuality, global women’s issues, labour and care work, media representation, and human rights. The programme places strong emphasis on social justice, equity, and inclusive practice.

Graduates of the Women’s Studies (Co-Op) Bachelor’s programme are well prepared for careers in social and community services, policy and advocacy, education, communications, human resources, and public service. The programme also provides a strong foundation for postgraduate study in gender studies, social sciences, law, education, or related fields.
