Applied Foreign Languages
Campus Porte des Alpes, France
The LEA – Langues Étrangères Appliquées (Applied Foreign Languages) program at Université Lumière Lyon 2 offers a rich, multidisciplinary curriculum tailored for students aiming to build a career in international and intercultural contexts. This specialization is structured to provide strong oral and written proficiency in two modern foreign languages—most commonly English, Spanish, German, or Italian—while combining this linguistic mastery with essential professional and academic competencies.
Throughout the three-year Licence program, students engage with courses that cover a wide array of practical disciplines such as economics, international relations, business communication, law, marketing, translation, intercultural negotiation, and project management. Language training is not limited to grammar and vocabulary; it extends to specialized vocabulary for various sectors including legal, economic, political, and scientific domains, preparing students for real-world applications in multinational settings.
The program emphasizes professional readiness: students are encouraged to participate in internships, particularly during the third year (L3), either in France or abroad. These internships allow them to gain firsthand experience in business environments, international organizations, NGOs, or cultural institutions. Additionally, study abroad opportunities through Erasmus+ and bilateral agreements are strongly recommended, offering students immersion in different linguistic and cultural settings, which is essential for reinforcing their adaptability and global perspective.
Graduates of the LEA program are equipped with both academic depth and professional versatility, making them strong candidates for careers in international trade, translation and interpretation, diplomatic services, marketing, tourism, communication, project coordination, and cross-cultural consulting. The program also provides a solid foundation for continuing into specialized Master’s degrees in international business, communication, translation studies, or European and international affairs.
In essence, LEA at Lyon 2 is not only a language-focused program but a comprehensive pathway to global professions, balancing theory with practical application and preparing students to thrive in dynamic, multilingual, and multicultural work environments.
