Construction Management
Kingston University, United Kingdom
The Construction Management programme is designed for students who wish to pursue careers in the planning, coordination, and management of construction projects across the built environment. The course provides a strong foundation in construction processes, project management, and organisational practice, enabling graduates to operate effectively within a complex and dynamic industry.
Throughout the programme, students explore key areas such as construction technology, project planning and control, cost management, procurement, health and safety, risk management, and sustainability. Emphasis is placed on understanding how construction projects are delivered from inception to completion, while balancing time, cost, quality, and environmental considerations.
The course adopts a practical and applied approach to learning, using case studies, simulations, group projects, and industry-informed teaching to reflect real-world construction scenarios. Students develop analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, alongside strong communication and teamwork abilities essential for managing multidisciplinary teams.
Professional and employability skills are embedded throughout the programme, including leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder management. Students gain insight into current industry practices, regulations, and emerging technologies such as digital construction and building information modelling (BIM).
A final project or dissertation provides the opportunity to investigate a construction-related topic in depth, often linked to professional interests or industry practice. Graduates of the Construction Management programme are well prepared for careers in construction management, project management, site management, quantity surveying, and related roles, as well as for further academic study and professional accreditation.
