Mediation, Interpreting and Intercultural Communication Bachelor
Main Campus, Italy
The program's educational objectives include:
- Solid, active proficiency in at least two foreign languages and enhanced awareness of the expressive tools of the Italian language;
- Advanced training in linguistic mediation, aligned with new technologies, digital tools, and evolving professional fields;
- A solid preparation in intercultural communication and processes;
- In-depth knowledge of the cultures of the studied languages and the domain of international relations.
Students have to take two foreign languages, with English as a mandatory first language and a second language chosen from French, Spanish, or German. In the Emerging Languages and Multicultural Skills curriculum, students add a third language—Arabic, Chinese, or Russian. Language teaching is workshop-based and delivered in classes of no more than 25 students, ensuring a participative, innovative, and effective learning experience.
After a shared first year, at the beginning of the second year, students can choose one of the following curricula:
- Interpreting and Translation Techniques:
- This curriculum provides in-depth training in interpreting and translation techniques, alongside the digital tools essential for the profession. While refining mediation skills, it also offers a solid preparation for pursuing advanced studies in translation or interpreting at the master’s level.
- Emerging Languages and Multicultural Competencies:
- Focused on the demands of a globalized world, this curriculum emphasizes linguistic competence in emerging languages (Arabic, Chinese, and Russian) and the understanding of contemporary cultural anthropology. It provides mediators with tools to move in multicultural contexts effectively.
- Linguistic Mediation for Marketing and Business:
- Centered on the corporate world, this curriculum provides expertise in economics, marketing, effective communication techniques, and public speaking. Insights into workplace psychology prepare graduates to excel in professional relationships and communication in today’s business world.
The Bachelor's Degree program enables graduates to enter a wide range of professional fields where foreign language knowledge and professional use are required, both in Italy and abroad. These fields include multinational corporations, the fashion industry, journalism and publishing, public institutions, and cultural events.
Graduates can work as linguistic and cultural mediators in various public and private sectors and within institutions and organizations where language skills are essential. They can hold roles such as:
- External Relations Officer or Communication Specialist in companies;
- Executive Assistant or Spokesperson in the import-export sector;
- Media Account, Buyer, Sales Specialist, International Customer Relations, or International Affairs Specialist within press offices and media relations.
The program also serves as a preparatory path for the Master’s Degree in Translation, Interpreting, and Digital Communication*.
