Hamburg Campus, Germany
Overview
The B.A. in International Sports Management at ISM is a full-time, practice-oriented undergraduate program that prepares students for leadership roles in one of the world’s fastest-growing and most dynamic industries. The program combines comprehensive business management education with specialized knowledge in sports-related fields, equipping graduates to manage clubs, events, brands, and organizations in the global sports sector.
Students begin their academic journey with a solid foundation in core business disciplines, including business administration, economics, marketing, accounting, and quantitative analysis. This strong grounding enables them to understand financial and strategic decision-making processes that are crucial for the success of sports organizations and events. These fundamentals are taught with a focus on their application in real-world sports management contexts.
Building on this, the program offers specialized modules tailored to the sports industry. Students can choose to deepen their knowledge in areas such as Sports Marketing, which focuses on sponsorship, fan engagement, and digital media strategies; Sports Event Management, covering the planning, execution, and evaluation of sports events; and Financial Management in Sports, exploring funding models, budgeting, and revenue generation in sports organizations. These modules are designed in collaboration with industry professionals to ensure they reflect current trends and demands.
ISM places great emphasis on intercultural competence and soft skills development, which are crucial for international careers. Students receive training in foreign languages, public speaking, negotiation, and leadership, enabling them to operate effectively in multicultural teams and global business environments. The mandatory semester abroad at one of ISM’s partner universities further strengthens their international perspective and allows them to experience the sports industry in different cultural contexts.
Practical experience is at the heart of the program. Through internships, practice-oriented projects, guest lectures, and company visits, students gain valuable insights into the industry and begin building a professional network while still studying. Collaborations with clubs, federations, marketing agencies, and event organizers ensure that theoretical knowledge is always linked to real-world application.
Graduates of the B.A. in International Sports Management are ideally equipped for a variety of roles in professional sports clubs, sports federations, sports marketing and event agencies, fitness and health companies, and sports-related media. They leave ISM not only with strong academic qualifications but also with practical experience, international exposure, and the leadership skills needed to shape the future of the global sports industry.
