MA Immersive Media prepares you to translate your creative knowledge and digital skills into engaging immersive content and public media experiences for diverse audiences in the rapidly growing creative and digital sector. Learning is conducted through a unique partnership with Real Ideas' Market Hall in Plymouth, home to one of Europe's largest Immersive Domes, featuring 8K visual projection and a 19.1 audio speaker array.
Led by expert staff and creative practitioners with pioneering experience in immersive media and digital world building, you will learn to develop original digital content for public spaces, including for a 360-degree dome optimised for audience engagement. The program draws on Arts University Plymouth's primary expertise in immersive genres emerging from fine art, games, film and animation, intersecting around practices such as installation art, 360-degree filmmaking, critical digital culture, social gaming and worldbuilding.
Through three sequential 60-credit units, you will develop an individual or collaborative research project realised through the taught use of immersive technologies, to production standards that fully prepare you for employment. Graduates connect to industries spanning games and entertainment, museums and heritage, marketing and tourism, art and architecture, healthcare, science education and beyond.

Curriculum & Modules
The MA Immersive Media follows a comprehensive Masters structure shared across specialist subjects at Arts University Plymouth. Through three sequential 60-credit units, you focus on creative strategies and processes that support you in investigating, testing and developing your ideas. Core tuition covers research methodology, critical thinking, practice-led research methods, and professional and conceptual frameworks.
Unit 1: Research and Development
60 CreditsEstablish your research direction and develop foundational skills in immersive technologies. You will explore 360-degree content creation, spatial audio, VR and AR tools while building a critical framework for your practice.
Unit 2: Testing and Production
60 CreditsDevelop and test your immersive media project through iterative prototyping and audience engagement. Working within the Immersive Dome and studio facilities, you refine your creative and technical approach to production standards.
Unit 3: Final Project and Professional Presentation
60 CreditsRealise your individual or collaborative research project as a fully resolved immersive media work. Present your project publicly and professionally, demonstrating readiness for employment in the immersive media sector.
