Program Overview: BA in Creative Writing
The Creative Writing major at Western New England University combines your passion for writing and love of literature to help you hone your writing technique and critical thinking skills to those of a literary professional. You will receive training in the art of writing within the context of aesthetics, the literary tradition, and a broad liberal arts education.
The program offers a rigorous apprenticeship in creative writing, developing your understanding of literary forms and tropes while providing the appropriate background in literary and intellectual history. You will study the two most important paths in creative writing: reading good writing and writing your own original work.

The BA in Creative Writing curriculum blends intensive writing workshops with foundational literary studies, preparing you to both create and critically analyze literature. Students complete a minimum of 120 credit hours including major requirements, general education courses, and electives chosen in consultation with an academic advisor.
