The year in industry takes place between your second and final years, giving you the opportunity to work in design or technology-oriented placements depending on your interests. As well as gaining invaluable workplace experience, you also have the chance to evaluate a particular career path, and if your placement goes well, you may be offered a job by that employer after graduation.
You are taught by a team of experts and industry professionals in areas of 3D production, online design, interactive applications, and human-computer interaction. All workstations in the university's computer suites are equipped with current industry-standard software, ensuring you develop proficiency with tools used by leading employers across the industry.

Curriculum and Modules
The BSc Digital Design with a Year in Industry program is structured across four years, with the placement year occurring between your second and final academic years. You gain design-specific skills through lectures, workshops, and directed self-study, building practical and theoretical knowledge through hands-on activities from the very start.
Learn the fundamental principles of 3D including conceptualising ideas, modelling, UV mapping, creating and manipulating materials, and texturing 3D assets. You will also understand the principles of digital cameras, lighting, rendering, and compositing.
A practice-based module where you bring your ideas to life by learning fundamental skills in creative digital content development, from design fundamentals such as composition and colour to audio and visual production techniques.
Discover the ins and outs of designing virtual environments and get hands-on experience creating real-time applications. You will learn asset development, narrative and storytelling design, and event programming for cinematic and interactive immersion.
Build on your 3D fundamentals to develop advanced skills in 3D production and simulation pipelines. This module prepares you for careers in film, VFX, product visualisation, gaming, and advertisement.
Enter the creative world of 3D animation and effects simulation, equipped with industry-leading advanced tools and techniques. You will master essential industry-standard applications and develop a critical eye aligned with demanding industry expectations.
