Overview
You will spend your first semester undertaking a number of taught modules to prepare you for your research project. This includes a research skills module in which you will gain hands-on training in advanced techniques such as confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, cloning, in situ hybridisation and bioinformatics. You will then choose research projects to pursue for the rest of the course in areas such as cancer biology, cardiovascular disease, stem cells and regenerative biology, microbiology and genetics. Discover biomedical research techniques for academic and commercial applications, enabling you to research, plan, design and execute a research project. You’ll learn what makes a good research project and which methods to employ. Use your skills and knowledge to solve a scientific problem. You’ll discover the latest developments in biomedical research, learn how to critically evaluate it, and apply lab techniques to propose a solution.
