Popular Music and Media (BA)
Main Campus, Germany
Overview
What is the course about?
Pop culture is media culture. The history of popular music and the colorful stories surrounding it have been significantly influenced by media technological developments for over a hundred years. The invention and continuous development of studio technology, sound recordings, mass media, computers, and internet technologies have been and continue to be of crucial importance for the production, distribution, use, and further processing of popular music culture.
Likewise, the people involved are essential components of our media society: whether as producers, marketers, journalists, global superstars, or local heroes. These figures and contexts must be professionally observed and analyzed in order to learn something about our mediatized and increasingly digitalized worlds and their pop music stages.
Acquiring academic skills and gaining practical experience in music and media are equally central components of your studies. In addition to academic practice and reflection on popular music, culture, and media, you will learn the fundamentals of music, event, and cultural management, music production, music and cultural journalism, media work, artist and performance coaching, and much more.
