Curriculum and Modules
The Bachelor of Music curriculum combines core music courses with concentration-specific studies and non-music general education requirements. Music Theory and Ear Training
16 Credit HoursA four-semester sequence covering written and aural music fundamentals, harmony, counterpoint, form analysis, and advanced chromatic and post-tonal techniques. Students develop skills in sight-singing, dictation, and analytical listening.
Music History and Literature
9 Credit HoursA comprehensive survey of Western music from antiquity through the contemporary era, examining major composers, stylistic periods, and cultural contexts. Courses include specialized literature study relevant to your performance concentration.
Applied Music (Private Lessons)
32 Credit HoursEight semesters of private instruction on your major instrument or voice with faculty who are professional performing musicians. Performance majors register for four credit hours per semester and are expected to practice one hour daily per credit hour.
Ensemble Performance
8 Credit HoursParticipation in large and small ensembles including orchestra, wind ensemble, concert band, choral groups, jazz ensembles, and chamber music. Students are required to accumulate ensemble credits across multiple semesters.
Conducting
