Curriculum and Course Structure
The MSc in Integrated Immunology is not modular in structure; all teaching elements are compulsory for all students. Teaching is delivered across a series of linked topic themes to ensure holistic coverage of modern immunology, with each taught term consisting of nine weeks of classroom-based teaching, one week for revision, and one for examination.
Unit 1: Fundamental Immunology

Unit 2: Clinical and Applied Immunology
Term 2Explores the applied, clinical, and therapeutic aspects of immunology including immunodeficiency, autoimmunity, allergy, transplantation immunology, tumour immunology, and immunotherapy approaches.
Unit 3: Research Project
Term 3 + Long VacationAn original, supervised 14-week research project conducted within a top-ranked Oxford research department or institute. Projects are provided by internationally recognised research groups from across the Medical Sciences Division.
Continuing Professional Development
Terms 1–2Professional development classes running throughout both taught terms, covering presentation and IT skills, statistics, ethics, scientific methodologies, careers guidance, and special seminars.
Small-Group Discussion and Problem-Based Learning
Terms 1–2Interactive small-group sessions which may be led by tutors or by students, designed to reinforce lecture content and develop critical analysis and collaborative skills in immunology.
Examinations and Assessment
End of Terms 1 and 2At the end of each taught term, students take a computer-based examination to test core immunological knowledge. The research project is assessed through a written dissertation and oral examination.
