University of Leeds, United Kingdom
This MA in Conflict, Development and Peacebuilding provides in-depth theoretical and case-based understanding of political instability, conflict, and post-war reconstruction across regions such as Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Core modules examine civil war, global governance, and complex emergencies, exploring how humanitarian, development, and security actors respond to instability.
You will engage with key themes including peacekeeping, international policy, and the role of state and non-state actors, while developing strong analytical and research skills. A wide range of optional modules allows you to specialise in areas such as security, terrorism, gender and development, or regional studies.
A major dissertation enables you to conduct independent research on a topic of your choice, supported by expert supervision.
Teaching includes lectures, seminars, and guided reading, supported by independent study and research events. Assessment is primarily through essays and a final dissertation, preparing you for careers in NGOs, policy, international organisations, and further academic study.
