Psychology of Child Development BSc

This Psychology of Child Development degree builds your understanding of children’s development across three years, combining core psychology with specialist focus areas. In Year 1, you explore cognitive, biological, social and developmental psychology, learning how the brain, environment and early experiences shape children’s behaviour. You’ll also develop essential research, analytical and communication skills, alongside an understanding of key psychological theories and ethics.

In Year 2, you deepen your knowledge through advanced study using both quantitative and qualitative research methods. You’ll carry out your own research, analyse findings and interpret behaviour in more detail. A key focus is child development, where you’ll examine how children grow, learn and interact, including differences in development. You may also explore related areas such as neuropsychology or forensic psychology to broaden your perspective.

In Year 3, you apply your knowledge to real-world contexts. You’ll design and complete an independent research project, explore personality and individual differences, and examine interventions that support children’s development and wellbeing. With opportunities for work placement and career preparation, you’ll graduate with strong research, critical thinking and practical skills for roles in education, psychology, research and child-focused professions.
