Building Surveying (with Work Experience) BSc

Year 1 introduces the fundamentals of building surveying and construction. You’ll study construction methods, materials and sustainability, alongside economics, management and legal principles. Professional practice and interdisciplinary projects develop your understanding of real construction scenarios and teamwork.

Year 2 builds technical and professional knowledge. You’ll explore advanced construction technology for complex structures, building services and sustainable systems. Modules in contract administration, project planning and production economics develop your understanding of costs, procurement and legal frameworks. You’ll also study town planning and further develop professional skills through integrated project work.

Year 3 focuses on advanced practice and independent study. You’ll examine building maintenance, conservation and sustainability, learning how to assess, refurbish or redevelop existing structures. Project analysis modules develop your ability to evaluate design, cost and environmental impact. You’ll also study professional ethics and practice management, culminating in a dissertation that demonstrates your ability to solve real-world surveying challenges.

This course includes a placement option, allowing you to gain valuable industry experience alongside your studies. You can spend up to 12 months working in a professional setting, developing practical skills, building confidence and enhancing your career prospects for the future.
