Archaeology (4 Years) MSci

Year 1 introduces core archaeological knowledge and skills. You’ll explore the archaeology of Britain from prehistory to the Industrial Revolution, alongside the history of archaeological thought and cultural anthropology. Modules on bones, burial and field archaeology develop your understanding of past societies and essential practical and analytical skills.

Year 2 deepens your practical and theoretical expertise. You’ll take part in team-based excavation projects and study key themes in British archaeology, while learning how archaeological materials are analysed and interpreted. Optional modules allow specialisation in areas such as forensic anthropology, geomatics, animal studies or world archaeology.

Year 3 focuses on advanced research and professional skills. You’ll complete an independent dissertation, undertake extended fieldwork and explore current debates in archaeology. Optional modules provide further specialisation, preparing you for careers or further study.

Year 4 emphasises advanced research and professional development. You’ll complete a major research project, develop methodological skills and gain further field and laboratory experience, preparing for professional archaeological practice.
