Sociology
University of Konstanz Campus, Germany
Starting with the social behaviour of individuals, sociology examines the structures and processes that shape society, change it, hold it together or drive it apart. Sociology is interested, for example, in migration, crises, change, environmental movements such as Fridays for Future, the labour market, consumer behaviour, gender roles, family and sexuality, digitalisation, big data, social media and youth cultures, education and universities, the nature of culture, poverty, wealth and all kinds of inequalities, the functioning of organisations and companies, crime, political power and individual action - in short, all aspects of human action. Sociology analyses the manifestations, causes and effects of phenomena in order to understand and explain them.
In Konstanz, you will also attend ethnological courses as part of your sociology bachelor's programme. The subject of ethnology (also known as cultural and social anthropology) shares sociology's interest in social problems and issues. The University of Konstanz is one of the few universities in Europe where sociology and ethnology can be studied in parallel. Students thus benefit from two exciting, theory-orientated, research-intensive and internationally oriented academic disciplines.
