The BA (Hons) Graphic Design at the University of Kent is designed for creative thinkers ready to channel their ideas into purposeful, dynamic work. Curriculum and Modules

The BA Graphic Design curriculum at Kent is structured across three progressive stages, moving from foundational design principles to advanced specialisation and professional portfolio development. You will study through lectures, workshops, studio-based work, and field study trips, with all assessment completed within each teaching term.

Design Fundamentals

20 UK credits / 10 ECTS

An introduction to core design techniques, processes, skills, and principles. You will develop visual literacy and learn to interpret client briefs and suggest creative solutions across digital, print, and spatial outputs.

Working with Typography

20 UK credits / 10 ECTS

Explore the theory and application of typography as a fundamental element of graphic design. You will learn to use type expressively and functionally across a range of design contexts and media.

Making Your Mark

20 UK credits / 10 ECTS

Develop a range of creative image-making techniques including photomontage, collage, printmaking, photography, and mark-making. You will build your ability to art direct and create images based on conceptual requirements.

Brand Experiences and Interactions

20 UK credits / 10 ECTS

Delve into the theory and application of brand identity and brand experience, emphasising both analogue and digital techniques. You will develop perspectives on ethical branding and create industry-standard outcomes for your portfolio.

Design Ethics

20 UK credits / 10 ECTS

Examine graphic design in the context of major contemporary issues such as the climate crisis, digital misinformation, inclusive design, and ethical branding. You will consider the social responsibility of designers in shaping public perception.

Discover and Define / Develop and Deliver

Your final major project modules where you determine personal objectives, prototype responses to project briefs, and produce a work-ready graduate portfolio. You will address inclusivity, sustainability, and design for good while developing your individual style.
