The BA (Hons) Classical Studies at the University of Kent invites you to explore the cultures, myths, histories, and legacies of the ancient civilisations that shaped the modern world. Based on the Canterbury campus, a city with deep Roman and medieval heritage, you will study alongside practising archaeologists and historians whose research is recognised internationally.
The programme spans from the Minoan and Mycenaean period through classical Greece, Republican Rome, and early Christianity, covering topics such as migration, gender, identity, and religion in the ancient world. You also have the option to study an ancient language such as Latin or Greek, and to take an optional pathway in archaeology leading to a degree in Classical Studies with Archaeology.
With the flexibility to choose from a wide range of optional modules, you can tailor your degree to match your interests, whether that lies in literature, philosophy, drama, or hands-on archaeological fieldwork. A year abroad or placement year option extends the programme to four years, offering additional international and professional experience.

Mediterranean Empires
30 creditsThis module introduces the main events and sources of evidence for the history of the Mediterranean between the rise of Macedon and the destruction of Carthage, covering Carthage, Rome, Hellenistic Greece, Egypt, and the Seleucid Empire.
Introduction to Archaeology

Gods, Heroes and Mystery Cults: Religion in Ancient Greece
