The University of Hertfordshire (UH) is a public research university based primarily in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, just 25 minutes by train from London Kings Cross. Originally founded in 1952 as Hatfield Technical College on land donated by the chairman of the de Havilland Aircraft Company, the institution was established to train aerospace engineers for the local aviation industry.
In 1992, the former Hatfield Polytechnic was granted full university status by the British government and renamed the University of Hertfordshire. Today, UH is one of the UK's leading business-facing universities, offering over 700 career-focused courses across six academic schools to a diverse community of around 35,000 students from more than 110 countries.
The university operates across two main campuses — College Lane and de Havilland — and is a member of University Alliance, Universities UK, and the European University Association. UH was the first and only university to receive the King's Award for Enterprise in 2024, and achieved a Silver award under the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) in 2023.
