FAU Campus Erlangen Center, Germany
Industrial engineers combine technical expertise and economic judgment. They must understand the work of production planners and designers just as well as that of purchasing managers and controllers. And they must make decisions that won't cause head-shaking in companies' technical departments and business administration staff, regardless of whether they later work in the automotive industry, the textile industry, or the media. Industrial engineers are generalists and bridge the gap between the worlds of engineering and economics, and between the natural and social sciences.
The Electrical Engineering (ET) program at the EEI Department is divided into four specializations: Information Technology, Electrical Power Engineering, Microelectronics, and AI and Robotics. While Electrical Power Engineering primarily deals with the generation and use of electrical energy, as well as its conversion and distribution, for example, in high-voltage grids, Information Technology teaches the fundamentals of digital transmission methods, video coding and transmission, audio signal processing, and communication electronics. In Microelectronics, you will study not only classic integrated circuits and optoelectronic systems, but also the future of electronics and information processing: quantum electronics. Last but not least, the AI and Robotics program opens up new avenues in the field of human-machine interaction and provides exciting new insights into the diverse applications of deep learning, whether in medicine or image processing. Typical career paths for industrial engineers with this specialization include research and development management, technical marketing, energy management, management consulting, and innovation management.
