Program Overview: Oral Health Sciences BSc (Hons)
The BSc (Hons) in Oral Health Sciences at the University of Dundee prepares you to register as a qualified dental hygienist and therapist with the General Dental Council (GDC). You will develop the clinical skills and scientific knowledge needed to prevent oral disease, promote healthy lifestyles, and treat conditions such as gum disease and dental decay as a valued member of the dental team.
The curriculum is integrated with the innovative 4D dentistry curriculum (Dentistry at Dundee, Driven by Discovery), meaning you will learn, practise, and be assessed alongside dental students for the first two years. This evidence-based, small-group approach encourages you to explore clinical problems collaboratively rather than through traditional lectures alone.
Teaching takes place in the University's Dental School and Hospital on campus, at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, and in local and regional dental clinics. You will begin practising skills in a simulated clinical environment and start seeing real patients by the end of your first semester, gaining invaluable hands-on experience from the very start of your studies.
