Secondary Drama with QTS
University of Chester Campus, United Kingdom
Overview
The Subject Enrichment Week for Drama trainees has, to date, included visits to Amsterdam, Venice, Barcelona, and Prague. During this week, trainees are given the opportunity to work with teachers, performers, and academics from schools, theatres, and universities, as appropriate. Trainees are encouraged to consider the historical and cultural contexts of the theatre and educational drama practices they engage with, comparing these with practices in the UK. Throughout the week, trainees also develop a reflective journal to record their thoughts and experiences.
On returning to the UK, trainees devise group or individual projects based on their experiences. These projects form the basis for schemes of work and practical workshops delivered in partnership schools. The course is designed to ensure that trainees are confident in meeting all basic national curriculum requirements.
If you have any questions about the course, please contact the Subject Leader, whose details can be found in the Staff section of this course page.
At its core, the course marks the beginning of your professional journey as a teacher. The programme aims to provide high-quality education and training, and modules will develop a critical understanding of pedagogy, assessment, and curriculum; critical knowledge, understanding, and skills in specialist age phases and subject areas; critical knowledge and understanding of wider professional issues such as behaviour management and inclusive practice; enrichment opportunities; and 120 days of school-based learning completed across a minimum of two schools.
