Politics and Modern Languages (Italian)

The BA Politics and Modern Languages program integrates the study of politics with the opportunity to learn one of six languages: French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, or Spanish. Students can begin language study at either beginner or post-A level, except for Portuguese, which is only available at the beginner level. The politics component examines power structures, global and local political issues, and various political systems, providing a comprehensive understanding of political dynamics. The language portion of the degree includes structured language courses and cultural studies, with options to explore literature, film, history, and other disciplines. A key feature of the program is the third year spent abroad in a country where the chosen language is spoken, immersing students in the language and culture. The program also offers access to resources like the Multimedia Centre and extracurricular activities such as language cafes and societies. The course emphasizes practical skills and research-led teaching, preparing students for diverse career paths. Assessments vary and include essays, exams, presentations, and collaborative projects. The program’s flexibility allows students to tailor their studies to their interests, supported by a vibrant academic environment.
