Biodiversity & Ecology
University of Bayreuth, Germany
Overview
The international Master's program in "Biodiversity and Ecology" imparts knowledge about the origin, recording, distribution, and functional significance of biological diversity at the level of genes, species, and ecosystems, thus providing the foundation for addressing the impacts of biodiversity loss and ecosystem change. The program focuses on the complex interactions of individual organisms with their environment and the contributions of different organism types to the functioning of communities and ecosystems. The Master's program in "Biodiversity and Ecology" aims to train graduates, within the framework of a four-semester in-depth study program, to be able to largely independently address a research and/or practical issue and identify and apply appropriate scientific methods. This goal is achieved through research-oriented training. Students receive broad methodological training, both theoretical and field-based, and gain practical experience with a wide range of scientific methods for assessing biodiversity, biogeographical patterns at different scales, and temporal pattern variations.
