Art and Cultural History
University of Augsburg, Germany
Overview
The Art and Cultural History degree programs consist of the five subdisciplines of Classical Archaeology, Art History, European Ethnology/Folklore, Musicology, European Regional History, and Bavarian and Swabian Regional History. This unique combination of subjects allows for research topics such as cultural heritage, popular culture, migration, and more to be examined from various disciplinary perspectives. The broad range of subjects also allows for specializations in individual disciplines.
The bachelor's program provides insights into the diverse topics and working methods of at least three of the five disciplines. It imparts basic knowledge and enables the first steps toward developing an academic profile, which can be further developed in the master's program, both disciplinarily and interdisciplinary. Excursions, internships, research projects, and archaeological excavations combine research and practice in both programs. This opens up a broad spectrum of careers in cultural studies, from museum work and adult education to university careers.
The course is aimed at anyone who would like to engage with visually, acoustically and socially perceptible cultural evidence of the past and present on their own initiative.
