This specialization allows students to gain and improve a broad set of skills indispensable in teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL). The program is focused on the specific requirements of modern teaching. It meets the requirements of the current labor market demand for English teachers. It not only provides methodological background that prepares students for employment in language schools and business, but it also equips students with skills indispensable for teaching English in public schools at the primary level, (classes 4 to 8), and secondary schools — provided they also hold Bachelor’s degrees in English Studies or a similar program, such as Applied Linguistics or a professional language certification program in English. Our team of lecturers in the teaching specialization comprise experienced educators, researchers and practitioners, such as philologists, psychologists, and educators.
Translation Specialization focuses on translation theory and practice. All courses are taught by experienced translators and translation scholars. The program offers workshops in business, media, literary and specialized translation, from Polish to English and vice versa. Students practice text analysis and writing in different styles. Additionally, they learn how to use Computer Assisted Translation programs (CAT tools). The Translation Specialization aims to:
– Instill professional approach to translated texts, such as the use of translation strategies and techniques, appropriate to the given context.
– Teach students about the requirements of general and specialized translation and localization.
– Demonstrate good working practices for professional translators, including: time management, research techniques, evaluation of information sources, compilation of translator’s library and tool set, and business basics for freelance translators. PLEASE NOTE: We focus on English to Polish and Polish to English translation, therefore you must be fluent in Polish to select this track. Communication in Business Program includes subjects such as: general management theory, marketing, communication, interpersonal relations, and influencing skills. Additionally, during workshops, students gain practical competencies in the following areas: presentation skills, public speaking, team work, and business writing. Some of the classes are conducted by business experts and managers actively working in various firms and corporations. During the course of studies, students have an opportunity to visit several companies and organizations, meet business professionals and previous graduates of the Communication in Business specialization.
