A curriculum built on firm footing by industry pros

All Jandoli School majors acquire a firm grasp of communication fundamentals from our core curriculum. This solid foundation has been a benchmark of the Jandoli School since the founding of our journalism program in 1949, and many of our alumni working in broadcast journalism today tell us was key to their success.

Among our faculty are professors with experience in broadcast journalism. They, along with alumni working in the industry, were instrumental in designing the major and its course offerings. You will be prepared for entry into the broadcast journalism arena with exciting and relevant courses, such as Producing Broadcast News, Documentary, Mobile Journalism, and On-Air Producing.

All Jandoli School majors are required to complete 400 hours of on- or off-campus internships. It's a demanding obligation, but one that paves the road to your future success in the broadcast industry.

Students also enjoy a 6-credit experiential learning opportunity that puts them in professional situations with close faculty mentorship.

You will be prepared for the challenge with instruction in our Koop Broadcast Lab, and you can help satisfy the 400-hour internship requirement, and gain valuable experience, by joining our on-campus broadcast outlets. Our students have produced broadcasts for SBU-TV for years, and we recently expanded the reach of our broadcasts on cable TV and internet provider Spectrum.
