Curriculum and Course Modules
The Continuing Care Assistant curriculum is designed to build your knowledge and practical skills progressively, starting with foundational health care concepts and advancing to supervised clinical placements. You will study a range of modules covering anatomy, personal care, communication, and specialized procedures, all tailored to prepare you for immediate employment in the health care sector.
Focuses on the goals and philosophy of health care services in Saskatchewan, your role as a caregiver within a multicultural setting, interprofessional work environments, personal health, employability skills, and types of abuse.
Examines the role of the Continuing Care Assistant as part of the interprofessional team, discusses attributes required for success, client and family-centred care, effective communication, and safe practices for client and caregiver safety.
Provides a basic introduction to body systems, covering the structure of organs and systems in the human body and how they function efficiently, along with common disruptions in sensory organs and body systems.
Develops your skills in assisting clients with personal care needs including infection control, body mechanics, positioning, oral care, feeding assistance, grooming, dressing, foot and nail care, and elimination care.
Covers written and oral communication skills required in the workplace, including basic medical terminology, concept mapping, observing and reporting on client status, and developing effective interpersonal communication.
Introduces the CCA role in assisting with special procedures, basic measurements, simple treatments, and client assessment. Includes two supervised clinical placements at different long-term care facilities over a 6-week timeframe.
