The Continuing Care Assistant program is structured over two semesters and covers essential healthcare knowledge, personal care skills, clinical practice, and interprofessional communication. Body Systems (ANAT 100)
Semester 1Study the structure and function of the human body's major systems, providing the foundational anatomy and physiology knowledge essential for delivering safe and effective client care.
Personal Care 1 (SPCR 104)
Semester 1Develop skills in infection control, body mechanics, bed making, positioning clients, range of motion exercises, oral care, and assisting clients with feeding and nutrition needs.
Interpersonal Communications (COMM 291)
Semester 1Examine the role of the Continuing Care Assistant within the interprofessional team, focusing on effective communication, client and family-centered care, rapport building, and safe practices.
Dementia Care (DEMC 100)
Semester 1Learn specialized approaches to caring for clients living with dementia, including understanding the progression of the disease, behavioral management strategies, and compassionate communication techniques.
Foundations of Sociology (SOCI 160)
Semester 1Explore sociological concepts including culture, socialization, family dynamics, social inequality in Canada, race and ethnicity, and the impact of these factors on healthcare delivery.
Clinical 1 - Special Care (CLIN 100)
