The Auto Body Technician Certificate at Saskatchewan Polytechnic is a one-year program designed to prepare you for a career in motor vehicle body repair and refinishing. Offered on campus in both Saskatoon and Regina, the program combines theoretical knowledge with extensive hands-on training over 32 weeks.
You will learn from experienced instructors in Saskatchewan Polytechnic's well-equipped auto body shops, which hold the distinction of being the first post-secondary shops in Canada to receive I-CAR Gold Class certification. Training activities include metalwork, vehicle painting, glass windshield installation, bumper alignment, electrical systems, and welding.
The program also includes one week of direct work experience in an auto body repair shop, giving you a firsthand taste of the industry. Upon graduation, you may be eligible for credit towards apprenticeship training through the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission (SATCC).

The Auto Body Technician program delivers comprehensive, practical training across the core areas of vehicle body repair and refinishing. Over 32 weeks of intensive study, you will develop skills in multiple specialized areas that prepare you for immediate entry into the workforce.
Learn to repair vehicle body panels through techniques such as hammering out dents, straightening metal, and restoring body components to factory specifications using industry-standard tools.
Develop skills in surface preparation, colour matching, spray painting techniques, and applying protective coatings and finishes to repaired vehicles.
Gain hands-on experience in removing and installing automotive glass including windshields, side windows, and rear windows using proper adhesives and techniques.
Learn fundamental welding techniques specific to auto body repair, including MIG welding and spot welding for panel replacement and structural repair.
Study basic automotive electrical systems relevant to body repair, including wiring, lighting, and connector repair that technicians encounter during collision restoration work.
