Medicine and Surgery ENG

Choosing to study Medicine and Surgery means committing consistently to study and attend courses, clinical internships, and professional development activities. The program offers 360 credits; each credit corresponds to 12.5 hours of lectures and 25 hours of internships and elective activities. 60 credits are dedicated to practical internships. The internships included in the curriculum are divided into clinical and qualifying. Great importance is given to laboratory and ward experiences, as well as professional development activities in small groups. From the first years of the program, students become familiar with laboratory equipment and begin working in the departments of the relevant healthcare facilities (Policlinico Umberto I University Hospital and Sant'Andrea Hospital). Students can take advantage of the facilities of a simulation laboratory (skill lab) by attending the BLS course as early as the second year of the program. Starting in the third year, students learn semiological maneuvers, both through peer-to-peer physical examinations and by examining patients with organ diseases. To facilitate learning the Italian language, the course employs a professional actor (simulated patient) with whom third-year students interact in Italian according to pre-formulated checklists in various clinical scenarios.
