MSc Bioinformatics
Mile End Campus (Main), United Kingdom
Bioinformatics MSc delivers comprehensive instruction in data‑analysis, computer programming and statistical techniques that underpin contemporary bioscience. The curriculum comprises four mandatory modules—Bioinformatics Research Project, AI and Data Science in Biology, Coding for Bioscientists and Statistics for Biologists—supplemented by a team‑based software‑development project and an individual six‑month computer‑based research project. Teaching incorporates genome sequencing, proteomics, evolutionary analysis and machine‑learning approaches and leverages high‑performance computing resources such as the Apocrita cluster. Assessment combines practical assignments, oral presentations and a ten‑thousand‑word dissertation, while the research preparation prepares graduates for doctoral study, biotech and pharmaceutical positions, and data‑science roles in finance and industry. Full‑time study spans one year; part‑time study extends to two years and is conducted at the Mile End campus where extensive national and international research collaborations are available.
