International Relations (Hons)

The three‑year Bachelor of Arts in International Relations provides a comprehensive study of global political systems, security dynamics, and contemporary international challenges. Core modules in the first year introduce foundational concepts, political analysis, and international relations theory, while subsequent years allow specialization through a selection of advanced topics such as African politics, gender and politics, global ethics, security studies, and the politics of South Asia and the Post‑Colonial Middle East. Students complete a compulsory dissertation in their final year and may choose from a wide range of optional modules including environmental politics, international political economy, global governance, and diplomatic theory. Teaching consists of approximately eight to twelve hours of weekly contact time in lectures and seminars, with an additional twenty hours of independent study expected each week. Assessment combines coursework, essays, and examinations, and students have access to research centres, policy forums, and extensive library resources to support their learning. The programme prepares graduates for careers in government, policy research, media, and international organisations.
